Sandy Today

Mr. Simon currently spends much of his time residing in Rabun County, Georgia with Christy Collins.

Sandy first visited Rabun County sixty years ago when he was instructed to open a new sales territory for Georgia Pacific in far northeast Georgia affectionately called Appalachia, one of the poorest regions in America. But not only did he succeed in sales, he fell in love with the tree-covered mountains, eighty percent owned by the Federal and state governments.

To Sandy, who still has a home in Palm Beach County, Florida, that fact told him the likelihood of big real estate developers clearing thousands of acres to build residential or commercial communities (as in Florida) was very low in Rabun County, Georgia.

Since he and Christy began spending so much time in Lakemont, near Clayton, the county seat, he has continued his career in commercial real estate ownership, buying old commercial buildings in downtown Clayton, restoring them and bringing new, young, innovative tenants to Main Street and Savannah Street. All of his tenants have prospered, adding new energy to the already attractive county seat.

Sandy has also continued his civic involvement in Clayton as he and his brothers did in their hometown of Delray Beach. “I love this community, its people, its culture, friendliness and its magnificent mountains covered in mature forests as far as the eye can see.” He and Christy are also active as well in their church community at St. James Episcopal Church, a major influence on their lives.

All in all, Sandy and Christy are in love with the milieu of Rabun County, Georgia!
